What is Cerebrovascular Disease?
Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) includes all disorders in which an area of the brain is temporarily or permanently affected by ischemia or bleeding and one or more of the cerebral blood vessels are involved in the pathological process. Cerebrovascular disease includes stroke, (CVA) carotid Stenosis, vertebral Stenosis and intracranial Stenosis. Aneurysms and vascular malformations.
Symptoms of Cerebrovascular Disease
Symptoms of CVD are dependent on where the hemorrhage is located and to the effect that the cerebral tissues are affected. Typical signs are associated with motor dysfunction – typically hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body) and hemiparesis (weakness on one side of the body). Paralysis of the body is the most common sign of cerebrovascular disease, with weakness of the limbs being an extremely noticeable symptom.
Other symptoms include:
Flaccid paralysis
Vomiting
Seizures
Fever
ECG Abnormalities
Loss of Consciousness
Irregular Respiration
Increased blood pressure
Severe headache
Deterioration of motor and sensory function
